Hayden Planetarium Program: The Journey to Palomar
In celebration of the International Year of Astronomy space enthusiasts are invited to attend an exclusive screening of the PBS special on the famed Palomar Observatory, The Journey to Palomar at the American Museum of Natural History, with the opportunity to meet the filmmakers, Todd and Robin Mason. The film tells the story of an American astronomer George Ellery Hale’s dramatic public and private struggle to build the four largest telescopes of the 20th century, culminating with the famous 200-inch telescope on Palomar Mountain. These telescopes revealed some of the most astounding discoveries since the research of Galileo and Copernicus and laid the foundations for today’s marvels such as the Hubble Space Telescope.
Following the screening, Ben Oppenheimer, Assistant Curator , The Department of Astrophysics, American Museum of Natural History will highlight some of these great discoveries and give a preview of the next generation of giant American telescopes, all part of Hale's Legacy.

IYA Kickoff Celebration - St. Louis Jan 16th
Come join the celebration of the beginning of the International Year of Astronomy with the St. Louis Astronomical Society and the St. Louis Science Center at the McDonnell Planetarium.
Guest speaker will be Dr. Pamela Gay. Dr. Gay is a professor of Astronomy and Physics at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.

17th Regional Meeting of Amateur Astronomers Jan. 24th
The Regional Meeting is hosted by the Cleveland County Astronomical Society, and held at Gardner-Webb University in the Ritch Banquet Hall starting at 8:00am and ending at 5:00pm until. There will be swap-tables, vendors, lectures, an astrophotography contest, observing at the Williams Observatory weather permitting and as always this is a FREE event. Night of the stars in Mexico Jan. 31st
The night of the stars will be in the Archaeological site of La Quemada, the Ancient city near Zacatecas, a World Heritage site, in Mexico, at 22 north, 102 West and 2,450 meters above sea level, you can camp there, telescopes wellcome.
